With a second week of dry weather the course is beginning to firm up and our greenkeeping staff are in final stages of preparation for the upcoming competition season
At the beginning of the week 40 Ladies competed in the Joyce Griffiths Trophy, an AMAM competition, on Tuesday 11th March. This was played over 17 holes, with all four scores to count on the 10th and 18th holes.
The winning team, with 80 points, were Alison Stratford, Val Smith-Jackman, Carol Wakelin and Kate Jesper. Alison described their success as a great team effort, ‘we nip and tucked well and most importantly everyone contributed on the holes where all four scores were to count’.
There were two teams with 79 points, coming second on countback were Vicky Eyre, Dee Miller, Sandra Dewey and Jo Walker. Third placed were, Ruth Skaife-Clarke, Claire Hutchinson, Ros Samuels and Janet Jones.

On Saturday 15th the Annual Millennium Trophy was played where mixed teams of four drawn from four handicap bands compete from a shotgun start: two scores to count on all holes except for 18 where it’s all four.
Scoring was exceptionally close with just single points dividing the podium positions. In third place with 81 was the foursome of Ian McNeill, Frank Flaherty, Jordan Jonas and Oliver Mantle: one point better off on 82 were Alan Morris, Clare Davies, Phil Miles and Malcolm Taylor.
However, the winners with 83 points were John Whiteley, Richard Goodhand, Vince Chambers and Steve Walker who collected the Trophy from Men’s Captain David Everingham.
Later in the day the Club held its 119th Annual General Meeting presided over by Club Chairman Richard Topham. Members were pleased to receive the reports showing the club to be in a healthy financial position with strong cash flows and a waiting list for those wishing to join the Club.
Votes of thanks were given to the retiring Captains and the Members unanimously voted in to office for 2025 Men’s Captain Andrew Asquith and Ladies’ Captain Vicky Eyre who will be ably supported by incoming Vice Captains Gary Macnair and Sue White.

On Sunday March 16th the traditional Captains Drive-In took place. Junior Captain Sophie McCormack got the ceremony underway with a dead straight drive, followed by Vicky Eyre and Andrew Asquith both of whom followed suit giving all three an excellent start to their year.
