Green Update
- Phase 2 of our Tree Management Program
Members Only
Diary Event

We are pleased to advise members that our trusted Tree Management Contractors have confirmed that they will be on site at Pannal from Monday 9th September. As previously described, phase 2 of our Tree Management programme will focus on the back 9 holes of our course with exactly the same objectives as those that we successfully implemented on the front 9 last year. We are delighted that we have been able to book the same team of professionals that we used last year, as Ross and his team proved to be highly efficient, cost effective and always demonstrated the highest standards of health & safety and care for our course.

At a high level, our plans will be very similar to last year’s highly successful phase one, where we will ensure that the health and safety of members, visitors and our staff are paramount, as we create a new ‘canvas' for the back 9 of our course. Detailed Health & Safety instructions will be provided to members and visitors, as will local rules, so that everyone fully understands their individual responsibilities and social and competitive golf can continue uninterrupted.

We have received numerous compliments and plaudits for the work done last Sept/Oct and our objective is to replicate this same look and feel on the back 9 of our course. Our contractors worked on 6 hectares last year and this year will see our contractors working on approximately 3 hectares. The reduction in contractor work and therefore cost on the back 9 holes is down to a combination of our Greenkeeping team's increased capability to complete some of this work ‘in-house’ and the smaller woodland areas on the back 9 of our course.

Our strategy remains the same and as fully described in the presentation evening run by James back in February. A copy of the presentation was also uploaded onto our YouTube page and this together with an audio commentary can be viewed by clicking on the following link. Presentation

In short, we will use professional advisors to recommend which trees will be removed to allow light and air to circulate, thereby creating our ‘canvas’. We will once again work closely with our Woodland Officer from the Forestry Commission who have already provided us with the necessary felling licences. Once the canvas is established our professional Golf Course Architect, Ken Moodie, of Creative Golf Design will again visit our course and provide his recommendations for new or modified features for each hole.

Our aim will be to complete the tree work by the end of October (weather permitting), instruct our Golf Course Architect, receive his recommendations and then to present the final plan to our membership as soon as possible thereafter. Work on constructing the new course architecture will then commence with the objective of additions and modifications being ready for play at the start of the 2020 playing season.

We will keep members appraised of progress as the work develops and will advise the date for a detailed presentation of what we are sure will be exciting plans from our Course Architect as soon as possible. In the meantime, please can we ask for members full support in giving our contractors the necessary space that they need to undertake their work.

This continues to be a very exciting time to be a member of Pannal as we work towards achieving our vision to be the ‘best golf club in Yorkshire’. In due course, we will be asking members for their valued support in helping with the ‘clean up’ operation and we hope that everyone will want to play a part in the team effort to create an even more amazing golf course.

Thank you
